Carmignano by Supercar: Medici Villas and Wines

Carmignano doesn't make it onto most tourist lists, which is part of the appeal. Half an hour from Florence but it feels separate - hills covered in vines, a few Medici villas that somehow escaped the crowds.

We give you a Ferrari or Lamborghini and a route that basically follows the old roads between the Medici estates. Back in the day, this was their backyard – where they'd escape Florence in summer and, you know, plot Renaissance stuff. Now it's yours for the day.

You stop at two Medici villas. Poggio a Caiano - big Renaissance palace. Then Artimino, they call it the Villa of a Hundred Chimneys. Count them when you get there. Not many tourists at either one, so you can wander around. Lunch is at a winery overlooking Barco Reale. Carmignano DOCG zone - they've made wine here since the 1300s. Local food, seasonal stuff. These lunches tend to run long. No one kicks you out.
